July 2021 was a difficult time for many South Africans, in particular residents of Durban and Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal who were subjected to riots, uprising and mass looting. The consequences of these actions left many without a job, income or food.
A message was spread on social media platforms of the idea and for anyone who would like to contribute thus an initiative, that was supposed to be a once-off for food drive in Pietermaritzburg was materialised.
Within two weeks R32 580,00 in donations was received which enabled the distribution of 1409 warm meals and provision of 32 food hampers.
The success of what started off as a food drive resulted in the inception of The Sarayu Foundation.
Many South Africans are faced with challenges far beyond comprehension of those who have and through donations received, the Sarayu Foundation through food drives, food hampers and outreach aims to help those who are disadvantaged.
All donations received are used towards helping the community, nothing goes towards operational costs.
